Warning – Graphic Post!
After some time in Ho Chi Mihn City, we found our way to Soc Tran, Vietnam for Tet – Vietnamese New Years. A lot of drinking and eating goes on during Tet as Vietnamese return home to their families to celebrate the holiday. We were hosted by our old friend Max Nguyen, the King of Color and his family. His brother-in-law had captured a wild pig, and brought it over to celebrate the new year and honour us at a feast.
Be warned that this post is pretty graphic. No offence intended, but this is the reality of eating meat. Which we do. Every year we seem to eat less and less, partly for health, partly for personal morality, partly environmental. We’re not there yet, although moving in the right direction. But as John Travolta said in Pulp Fiction – “Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good.”
Finally we were sat down to a truly impressive banquet. The family, men and women alike, spent the day in the kitchen preparing all manner of dishes and it tasted amazing! Love, love, love Vietnamese food! Thank you, Ngugen family and thank you, Noble Pig. We salute you.
